Houses with history
Quinta da Lage Alta has always belonged to the owner’s family. Many families of farmhands and their children grew up there.
These families worked in farming and sheep-rearing, with the production of Serra cheese being their main source of livelihood.
Originally, the farm consisted of the Stone House, and only the first floor was habitable. The ground floor, where the living room and kitchen are now located, was once home to the cowsheds and sheep pens.
The owner, Rui, is from Fornos de Algodres, and his wife Alexandra, is from of Funchal, returned to Fornos de Algodres, having already extended the original house in 1995 to create what is now known as Pine Cone House. Their children, Tomás and Matilde, were able to enjoy a childhood surrounded by nature and the freedom of the countryside, and now that they have left for university, the owners have decided to bring this dream to life.
The Concept
This house was born out of a dream and the desire to provide the municipality where the owner was born with a space where guests feel at home, where peace and tranquillity fill their days.
We want our guests to enjoy a relaxing and harmonious stay, combining a rustic feel with the modern conveniences that technology offers. Here you can enjoy a warm, family atmosphere, characteristic of our people.
The surrounding atmosphere transports us to an idyllic setting, where the sounds and scents of nature reign supreme. Stay with us and enjoy!
“The farm holds great sentimental value, as several generations grew up there.”
Sustainability
Surrounded by nature and set against the relaxing backdrop of the mountains, all materials used in the restoration, maintenance and interior design of our houses are carefully selected with a view to integrating with and protecting the surrounding environment, without compromising on our guests’ comfort.
This concern is also reflected in our choice of suppliers, who offer us the very best the region has to offer through their seasonal produce and traditional flavours. In this way, we not only promote our region but also contribute to the development of the local economy.
“Some of the energy consumed by our homes is generated from renewable sources.”
We promote green mobility, encouraging our guests to explore the region’s trails on foot, or using the bicycles we provide for these trips.
